After last nights devastating 4-0 defeat to Barcelona, it seemed Pep Guardiola’s decision to not start Sergio Aguero severely backfired.
It would seem however, that defeat was inevitable to the Catalan Giants and as a result, the Spaniard took the decision to rest star man Sergio Aguero for this weekends Premier League home fixture against Southampton.
The Manchester City manager reportedly told our source after the game:
“We had no chance tonight. Did you see their forward line? We were never going to get something out of this one. From the moment the draw was made, we were always fighting for second place. They are world class. We could not win. I built that team – so I should know”.
When quizzed why he decided to rest Aguero, Pep apparently replied:
“After our recent blip in the EPL its paramount we get back to winning ways this weekend. The best way to do that is with a fully fit and rested Sergio. With Saints playing Inter on Thursday we get an extra day to recover and with a rested Aguero, he’ll be ready to pulverise Puel’s men. You mark my words. I’m so confident, I’ll also use my triple captain on him in my Fantasy Football this week”.
So there you have it. It was a tactical ploy all along and not a tactical oversight.
You heard it here first.
